Story Exploration
We begin by listening. What is the story you want told? We expertly guide you in the storytelling process and help identify themes, key moments, and main characters of the film. We also inquire about your archival materials - photographs, home movies, letters and other key documents that will be part of the narrative. Once we get to know your wishes, we can present you with a proposal and timeline to produce and deliver the film.
Pre-Production
We communicate with the key people in the film to schedule interviews. In about one to two weeks, our team plans and prepares for each day of filming. Many projects can be filmed in a few days but more ambitious projects will require more shooting time.
Production
Lights, cameras, action — our team arrives to record your story. Our on-site crew is typically five people: two camera operators, a sound engineer, an interviewer, and a director. We may bring interviewees to one location or travel to spend time with them where they live.
Editing
We carefully craft your film from interviews, scenes we record with subjects, and archival materials. A narrator voiceover and music are added. For a thirty-minute film, you can expect to see a fine-cut after four weeks. During the next two weeks, you’ll have the opportunity for two rounds of revisions.
Delivery & Celebration
After six weeks, you’ll receive the final cut of your bespoke documentary film, fully ready for a private screening and family celebration.
